    Our fifth graders are loving writing to their pen pals in Switzerland! The international pen pal exchange offers students a meaningful opportunity to practice their writing skills, build global awareness, and make real connections with peers across the world. As the year continues, students will exchange letters, compare experiences, and gain insight into both the similarities and differences between life in the United States and Switzerland.

    Third grade students are diving into ancient Rome, exploring its culture and historical events. They will be reading the legend of Romulus and Remus, centered around Rome’s founding, as well as several myths about Roman gods and goddesses. Students will also study the historical rise and fall of the Roman Empire, and learn about key historical figures, such as Hannibal, Julius Caesar, and Augustus.

    Our third grade students recently took a trip back in time! They engaged in an immersive learning experience that simulates the journey of immigrants traveling through Ellis Island in 1920.

    They come away with a deep appreciation for the challenges and resilience of those who sought a new life in America while gaining meaningful insights into the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship in a diverse society.


About

Greenland Central School is comprised of grades K through 8 with an enrollment of approximately 380 students.  The school is organized around “houses” and teaching teams- grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8, with each grade currently consisting of two or three class sections.

Our faculty and SAU 50 colleagues are dedicated to utilizing Professional Learning Communities (PLC) to meet the needs of the whole child. They review, refine, and align our programming with state standards to ensure it addresses the needs of students. Staff delivers high-quality instruction with clear expectations, gather and use performance data effectively, and provide support tailored to each learner's achievement level and overall development.

The mission of the Greenland School District is to enable every student to acquire and demonstrate the essential skills, knowledge, and problem solving abilities needed to become thinking, considerate, open minded, responsible citizens and family members who value learning throughout their lives.
