About GCS Robotics

Welcome to GCS Robotics! We are a group of passionate and innovative middle school students who love solving real-world challenges through creativity, engineering, and teamwork. Robotics team members learn and practice mechanical, programming, marketing, communication, and business skills.

The team was started in 2020 by Mr. Randy Weld, the STEM teacher at GCS. We meet after school from September through April, designing and building robots to compete in the First Tech Challenge. GCS Robotics is proud to field two FTC teams: Hilda the Builda and Tobor the Viking.

We compete against other middle school and high school robotics teams across the state. We have accomplished so many things since the start of our team including placing 7th in the state 2 years ago, placing 12th and 8th last year, and winning multiple awards. In 2025, Hilda won the control award which pushed Hilda up to states. In the second competition, Hilda was granted the control award and Tobor was granted the 2nd place Inspire award pushing them up to States after another team dropped out! After the following States competition, Tobor The Viking made it to regionals.
