GCS Mathematics Instruction

Elementary math instruction lays the foundation for lifelong problem-solving skills and critical thinking. At GCS, we use the Bridges program which focuses on nurturing deep conceptual understanding through a blend of direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration.

We emphasize the use of visual models like pictures and diagrams to help students grasp complex mathematical concepts across different areas of math, making learning more intuitive and memorable. Students are encouraged to think critically by exploring multiple strategies and justifying their reasoning.

Our middle school students enjoy a dynamic and comprehensive math learning experience. Our instruction is enriched by the integration of EdGems for our core curriculum, and Desmos, a cutting-edge educational technology that allows students to visualize and explore mathematical concepts through dynamic graphs, interactive simulations, and activities. In addition, students engage in inquiry-based learning tasks from Illustrative Mathematics where students explore, question, and discover mathematical concepts through problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Together, we empower students to explore math with enthusiasm and grow into confident, capable learners.
